Interconnected Homes

"Interconnected Homes"
For this piece, I decided to look into my background and look into my life. The style of this piece is of a Malaysian batik, which is a cloth that is painted on and used as clothing usually. In this painting, I decided to paint two hibiscus flowers, which are the national flowers of Malaysia, and then two personalized flowers that I have been known for drawing everywhere. Furthermore, there is rope that connects these flowers and this large form, as a whole, represents me as a person. The larger hibiscus represents Malaysia, my home country, and the smaller one represents Holland, my second home. The flower that is situated in the middle is my interpretation and adaptation of a Dahlia flower and it is a flower that I tend to draw when I doodle or when I paint flowers in general. Furthermore, the bright red of the flowers are contrasted by the cool colors of the background and thus this allows the flowers to stand out the most from the rest. Also, the small designs in the background are to give a more batik feeling to it, since in batiks there are small designs in addition to the "main attraction" of it.
